In February, the official website of the Journal of English for Academic Purposes (JEAP) published the original research paper "From abstracts to '60-second science'" issued by Professor Ye Yunping from the School of Foreign Languages of BIT in JEAP Volume 53 in September 2021 podcasts: Reformulation of scientific discourse" (from paper abstracts to "60 Seconds of Science" reporting: Reconstruction of scientific discourse), which has been awarded the journal's only global "Best Paper Award" in 2021.

For the first time, the award was named after Ken Hyland , an eminent linguist, JEAP co-founder and co-editor in chief, which is the Ken Hyland Best Paper Award for Journal of English for Academic Purposes.

In the awarded article, Professor Ye Yunping uses the method of Corpus-Based Genre Analysis Methods, taking “60-second Science” as a new genre of scientific discourse and representing its unique rhetorical structures and linguistic style for the first time. The major point of the article is that scientific discourse has evolved into a range of genres of written English or spoken English with the change of communicative purposes, communicative objects, and communicative situations., and each genre has recognizable macro-rhetorical structures and micro-linguistic features.. It is crucial for scientists to spread technological information, accomplish communicative goals and achieve the effects. What EAP teachers and researchers should do is to make the students absorb the typical features of major genres in scientific discourse, and enable them to take effective technical communication into practice. Therefore, the article inspires EAP teaching in both the English countries and non-English countries.

JEAP was the official journal of and founded by British Association of Lecturers in English for Academic Purposes (BALEAP). It has been indexed by 16 big data databases including SSCI, A&HCI, Scopus and MLA International Bibliography.
