Based on the theory of functional linguistics, this paper uses authentic materials and methods from corpus linguistics to study the typical characteristics of scientific discourse, from research papers to technology news. It analyzes the changes of generic structure, rhetorical strategy, and linguistic choice in the reconstruction of scientific discourse, and reveals how these changes will affect people's understanding, cognition, and application of technological information. It highlights the social responsibility and obligation of science and technology communication workers.

The research results can directly serve the practice of English for academic purposes teaching and improve the discourse competence and discourse appropriateness of science and technology college students and graduate students in international scientific and technological exchanges.

Professor Ye Yunping, namely the author, has long been dedicated to the research of English for academic purposes, and currently serves as the standing director of English for Specific Purposes Committee of China Association for Comparative Studies of English and Chinese (CACSEC) and China English Academic Purpose Association (CEAPA), as well as the member of the National College English Test (CET) Committee of CET-4 and CET-6.
