Professor of BIT has been Elected as a Foreign Associate in the Engineering Academy of Japan

On July 7, Guo Shuxiang, the professor of the School of Life Science in BIT, has been officially elected as a foreign associate in the Engineering Academy of Japan, receiving congratulations from the president of the Engineering Academy of Japan Kobayashi.

The Engineering Academy of Japan has been established in 1987. People among universities, industries as well as national research institutions, who have made outstanding contributions in engineering, science and technology-related fields are included. And so do those who have important leadership and guidance positions. Professional areas including mechanical engineering, information science, electrical and electronic engineering, chemical and material engineering, construction engineering, resources and energy engineering, physics, life science, management and policy. Based on his pioneering research in remote control micro-operating systems for medical biology and bionic fish-shaped micro-robots, professor Guo Shuxiang has been elected as a foreign academician in the field of mechanical engineering.

Attached to Professor Guo Shuxiang's team profile:

Professor Guo Shuxiang is listed among the National Overseas High-level Talent Introduction Program and the "Changjiang Scholar Award Program" of the Ministry of Education. Currently, he is a professor in the School of Life Sciences of BIT, and the director of the Key Laboratory of integrated Medical Engineering Systems and Health Engineering of Ministry of Industry and Information Technology. He serves as the chairman of the founding conference of the IEEE ICMA (Intelligent Mechatronics and Automation) International Conference and the chief editor of ”IJMA (Intelligent Mechatronics and Automation) International Magazine“. He has been engaged for a long time in research work on micro-robot technology, vascular examination micro-system, remote control micro-operating system for medical biology, etc. He has played a leading role in developing two types of cerebrovascular examination microsystems with a diameter of 1mm. The bionic fish-shaped micro-robot with 3 degrees of freedom is the world's first invention and it has been reported in the world authoritative magazine New Scientist (No. 2340, p.17).
He has presided more than 10 projects at the provincial and ministerial level which includes the 863 project of the Ministry of Science and Technology and the key scientific research project of the Ministry of Science and Technology of Japan (equivalent to the 973 project of the Chinese Ministry of Science and Technology). He has published more than 580 academic papers, over 170 of which are included in SCI, and he has edited 10 large-scale academic monographs. Meanwhile he has won 14 international academic awards and 2 provincial and ministerial second prizes. Fifty-five graduate students and 15 post-doctoral personnel were trained by professor Guo.
In October 2012, Professor Guo Shuxiang and his team members joined the School of Life Sciences of BIT, and established the Institute of Modern Medical Engineering System. With the aim of creating a high-level and international innovative research team, they made full use of international resources as well as actively carried out international exchanges and international cooperative research, creating a high-level and international innovative research team.

Relying on the platform of key laboratory of integrated medical system and health engineering of Ministry of industry and information technology, they have made great achievements on independent innovation of high end medical equipment systems. In order to improve the localization process of high-end equipment in China, they have independently developed specialized vascular interventional robots. The system has originally proposed linear drag and push technology and remote operation technology based on multi-source information fusion, which has reached the international advanced level. Cooperated with the Naval General Hospital, the PLA General Hospital and Beijing Tiantan Hospital, they completed multiple clinical trials and animal experiments, and successfully implemented the first domestic whole-brain angiography clinical trial. Relying on the "863 Program" of the Ministry of Science and Technology and other projects developed by the cardiovascular and cerebrovascular intervention surgery robot system, they finished the first Sino-Japanese remote surgery test and obtained the first-hand data of multinational remote surgery test. The development of the vascular interventional surgery robot system has broken the international monopoly, improving the localization process of high-end medical equipment; They have been authorized more than 20 national technical invention patents, and have successfully transferred 14 patents (transfer fee 2.6 million yuan).

At present, with the close integration of the needs of major medical equipment and rehabilitation engineering related to disease diagnosis and treatment, they attach importance to the application of micro-sensing technology in the field of biomedicine. Based on existing biomedical engineering, mechatronics technology and other disciplines, they promote interdisciplinary development and forming disciplinary features in the areas of miniaturization, intelligence and integration of medical instruments. They attach great importance to the research and development of key components in medical surgical robots, upper limb rehabilitation robots, micro-pipe robots, bionic underwater robots, etc. Aimed at promoting technological innovation and industrial transformation, they actively cooperate with enterprises and institutions to combine production, learning and research as well as promoting the localization process of medical equipment to move forward steadily. Along the development road, they will not forget the original intention and forge ahead.
