Student Visa & Residence Permit
Foreign students planning to study in China should have a valid passport and an ‘X1’or ‘X2’ visa in order to register. Students planning to study in China for a period longer than six months are required to apply for an 'X1' Visa. Students that will study in China for six months or less may apply for an 'X2' visa.
‘X1’ visa holders must apply for a Foreigner Residence Permit within 30 days from entering China, otherwise their stay constitutes an illegal residence. Because students will not be allowed to register before registration day and our office takes around 7 days to process the necessary documents to apply for a residence permit, students are advised to enter China one week before registration day.It takes from 11 to 15 working days to process a new residence permit.
‘X2’ visa holders can apply for a visa extension during their stay in China, but the total extension time cannot exceed one year. The number of entries permitted and time limits for stay in China will be written on the visa. Each student should verify the number of entries and the expiration dates on their visa and register to school on time. Entering Mainland China from any of the special administrative regions of Macao, Hong Kong or Taiwan counts as one entry.
Important Notice: If you are still in china after your visa or residence permit has expired your stay in China will become illegal and you will be fined 500RMB per day or will be detained between 5 to 15 days.
Students will be allowed to apply for a visa or residence permit only after they have paid their tuition and insurance fees.
Please pay attention to your passport and visa status, make sure they are not expired. When you go out, please take copies of passport, visa and valid temporary residence; take your passport with you if you are traveling outside Beijing.
