BIT Jointly Hosted the 4th International Symposium on Micro/Nano Mechanical Machining and Manufacturing (ISMNM2016)

From April 25th to 28th, 2016, the 4thInternational Symposium on Micro/Nano Mechanical Machining and Manufacturing (ISMNM2016) jointly sponsored by BIT and Japanese Precision Engineering Society Nano Machining Committee and funded by the National Natural Science Foundation (NSFC) and the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS) was successfully held in Akita, Japan. The symposium set up a high-end exchange platform for micro/nano machining and manufacturing technologies with universities and research institutes in China, Japan, Germany, and the United States as the mainstays. It represents the international academic level of this field.

ISMNM2016 research topics mainly include: micro/nano machining manufacturing technology, micro-cutting tool design theory and manufacturing technology, ultra-precision machining and equipment, micro-mechanical systems and intelligent manufacturing equipment, micro-cutting and abrasive grain processing technology, micro-mold manufacturing technology, micro forming processing technology, micro assembly and integration technology, and micro test and test technology. Focusing on the frontiers and hot spots in micro/nano mechanical processing and manufacturing, the latest research progress in the National Natural Science Fund Project of micro mold manufacturing, micro cutting and cutting tool technology in recent years, the scientific problems and trends in the field of technology are deeply discussed, which have led to the development of micro/nano mechanical processing and manufacturing technology systems with independent intellectual property rights in China. Over 80 experts and scholars from Tohoku University,Institute of Physical and Chemical Research, Akita Prefectural University, Ibaraki University, Iwate University, Nagaoka University of Technology, Tsinghua University,Nanjing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics, Guangdong University of Technology, Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Shandong University, Harbin Institute of Technology,Huazhong University of Science and Technology, Xi’an Jiaotong University,Northwestern Polytechnical University,Dalian University of Technology, Peking University,Zhejiang University of Technology, Nanchang Hangkong University, Xi’an Institute of Mechatronics and Information Technology and Beijing Institute of Technology attended this symposium.

Prof. Tsunemoto Kuriyagawa of Tohoku University, Prof. Wang Xibin of BIT and Academician Lu Bingheng (Associate Prof. Zhang Jun instead) made opening remarks respectively. The symposium was presided over by Prof. Wu Yongbo of Akita Prefectural University and Prof. Zhou Tianfeng of BIT. Prof.Hitoshi Ohmori,Prof. Wang Xibin, Prof. Chen Ming, Prof.Katsuhiro Mitaka andProf.Naoki Matsuura delivered a speech.

The group reports were presided over by Prof. Rong Yiming of Tsinghua University, Prof. Hiromi Isobe of Nagaoka University of Technology, Prof. Zhang Bi of Dalian University of Technology, Prof. Keita Shimada of Tohoku University, Prof. Wang Yilong of Makino, Prof. Chen Ming of Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Prof. Yasuhiro Kakinuma of Keio University and Prof. Yuan Julong of Zhejiang University of Technology. The contents include material removal mechanism for micro-milling, machining process simulation, machining accuracy theory, ultra-fine drill bit development, focused ion beam machining of optical components, ultrasonic vibration grinding, plastic forming of micro-parts, nano-precision polishing, micro-defect ultrasonic testing, precision Mechanical system micro-assembly theory and other research hotspots in the micro/nano machining and manufacturing field.7 people from BIT attended the symposium and made a special report.

Duringthe symposium, Prof. Wang Xibin, on behalf of School of Mechanical Engineering, BIT, invited Prof. Tsunemoto Kuriyagawa as an overseas expert on the assessment of the international discipline of mechanical engineering, and submitted an invitation signed by Hu Haiyan, President of BIT. On April 28, after the successful completion of the agendas of the conferences, ISMNM2016 was successfully closed, which was highly appreciated and recognized by the participants.

After thesymposium, delegates collectively visited sapphire/SiC lens precision grinding and polishing production process of Akita Optical Manufacturing Co., Ltd., engine parts precision stamping/processing production lines and other representative Akita processing of Showa Industries Co., Ltd., and AMT Lab.
