【Mingli Lecture 2022, Issue 12】3-31 Professor Kalyan Singhal , University of Baltimore gives report

At the invitation of the School of Management and Economics, Professor Kalyan Singhal of Operations and Supply Chain Management from the Merrick School of Business, University of Baltimore came to our school for an exchange visit and held an exchange visit on March 31, 2022 (Thursday) at 20:00-21:00 on Zoom At the meeting, an academic report entitled "Manufacturing and Technology in China Two Journals (POM&MBR)" was held. The report was chaired by Professor Xu Suxiu. Many teachers and students of the college and teachers and students from other colleges attended the report.

The report consists of three parts. Professor Kalyan Singhal introduced China's technology history and strategic choices and two journals Production and Operations Management (POM) and Management and Business Review (MBR). Professor Kalyan Singhal first introduced China's technological and economic status before the Industrial Revolution, then analyzed the development of China's manufacturing industry during the Industrial Revolution, and discussed why China missed the opportunity to become a naval power before the Industrial Revolution, which in turn led to China's industrialization in the industry. Fate during the Revolution. China is once again the world's largest manufacturer and the world's largest economy, both driven by its exports. To succeed in the Belt and Road Initiative and establish itself as a world leader, China should undertake a quality revolution, focus on the environment and create new industries, and seek to forge a strategic alliance with India. Secondly, it introduces the reputation and status of the two journals POM and MBR, as well as the review process, and introduces how to write papers that can be accepted and widely read, and welcomes extensive contributions from teachers and students in our school.

Finally, the teachers and students at the meeting had in-depth exchanges and discussions with Professor Kalyan Singhal, and Professor Xu Suxiu made a summary of the report. The report was well received and received unanimous praise from teachers and students.

Introduction of Prof. Kalyan Singhal:

Dr. Kalyan Singhal is the McCurdy Professor of Operations and Supply Chain Management at the Merrick School of Business at the University of Baltimore. In 1989, he founded the Production and Operations Management Society (POMS). He also founded Production and Operations Management (POM) magazine in 1992, and has been its editor-in-chief ever since. He is also the founder, publisher and co-editor of Management and Business Review (MBR). He has published in all major journals in his discipline, including Academy of Management Review, Management Science, Operations Research, Production and Operations Management, Manufacturing and Service Operations Management, and Journal of Operations Management". In addition, he is a Fellow of INFORMS and POMS.
