Speaker Bio.

Alain Yee Loong Chong is a Professor in Information Systems and Dean of Graduate School at University of Nottingham Ningbo China. He obtained his PhDs from University of Nottingham and Multimedia University Malaysia and was a postdoctoral research fellow at Hong Kong Polytechnic University. His current research interests include technology driven disruptions, social media analytics, digital transformations and mobile computing. His work has appeared in Journal of Association for Information Systems, Information & Management, Decision Support Systems, Transportations Research Part B: Methodological, Annals of Operations Research, International Journal of Operations and Production Management and European Journal of Operations Research, among others. He now serves as the Co-Editor of Industrial Management & Data Systems, Senior Editor of Decision Support Systems and Associate Editor of Information & Management.

Brief description of the report.

In this talk, I will share with the audience why we publish, how we publish, and where we publish our research work. I will share some common reasons why papers are desk rejected, how authors can better position their articles, and address reviewers’ and editors’ comments. Most of the contents are based on my observations as Editor in Chief of Industrial Management & Data Systems, Senior Editor of Decision Support Systems, and Associate Editor of Information & Management. I will share some insights into what journals’ editors and reviewers consider when reviewing research papers.

This session will primarily address the following:

• Understand the publication process

• Self-reflections on why do we publish?

• What are some considerations when writing a good paper?

• Address some common mistakes authors make when writing and submitting their manuscripts.

• Addressing editors’ and reviewers’ comments.
