Time: 18:30 pm, April 23 (Monday)

  Location: Liangxiang Campus, Lishu 1-308

  Speaker: Dr. Hooman Peimani

  Brief introduction:

Russia is the world's single largest exporter of oil and gas. It has been planning to shift its energy-export focus from Europe to Asia for strategic reasons and also as a long-term premises since the European Union (EU) has a declared plan to End its heavy energy dependency on Russia. While Asia is receptive to Russia and is its long-term energy market, Russia’s achievement in this market will be limited in the foreseeable future compare to that of Europe.

Major contributing factors include the availability of many suppliers and the reluctance of Asia's large energy importers to massive depend on any single supplier, and especially on Russia for historical reasons and concerns about its re-rise as a superpower. Geographical barriers also limit Russian access to Other Asian markets. For oil/gas exports, Europe will remain Russia's major market in the foreseeable future unless the EU changes its policy towards Iran, the is realistic north-term replacement for Russia, which is unlikely in the near future.
